WEDS Apr. 20 (PM): Copa del Rey, CD9, and Arsenal Fail

It took 120 minutes for el Classico to decide the Cope del Rey, but in the end it was Real Madrid that was able to beat Barcelona 1-0. In the 103 minute Angel Di Maria was able to set up Cristano Ronaldo, who headed the ball into the back of the net. Also, for the first time in 17 years Real Madrid was able to Copa del Rey, and now the pressure will be on Barcelona to beat Real Madrid in Champions League. Barcelona may already have La Liga already won, but swings the momentum in favor of Real Madrid. (more…)

WED Apr. 6 (PM) Ronaldo, Champions League and Liverpool

In an unexpected report Milan could go after Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. The president of Milan, Silvio Berlusconi expressed that his club could make a move for the Portugese star this summer. In the end it will unlikely happen do to the inflated price that Real would place for Milan to get Ronaldo and most important why would Real sell a player they invested 94 million euros. Also, the price of one Ronaldo is not worth four or five quality players Milan could get for the same price.

Although this move is unlikely Jose Mourinho states if Ronaldo leaves he will leave too. More reasons for why Madrid should not sell Ronadlo; with the possiblity of losing one of the best players and one of the best coaches in world. (more…)

TUES Feb. 22 (PM): Champions League, Xavi, Roma and CONCACAF Champions LeagueUES

Chelsea beat FC Copenhagen of Denmark 2-0 in UEFA Champions League play, while Real Madrid and Lyon played to a 1-1 draw. Nicholas Anelka had a brace for the Blues, while Karim Benzema and Bafetimbi Gomis struck for Real Madrid and Lyon, respectively. In English Premier League action, Blackpool earned a surprising 3-1 win over Fulham, raising them to 5 points clear of the drop zone.

CSKA Moscow secured their place in the last 16 of the UEFA EUROPA League with a 1-1 draw with PAOK Salonika.

Barcelona superstar Xavi will be out 7-10 days with a calf strain. That means he’ll miss this weekend’s La Liga game against Mallorca, and possibly Monday’s matchup at Valencia. Barca coach Pep Guardiola will also be without Carlos Puyol, keeper Victor Valdes and Dani Alves. (more…)

WED Jan 26 (PM): Birmingham, Suarez, Adebayor, and Wood

After a thrilling comeback  against West Ham, Birmingham are through to the final of the Carling Cup. A goal in extra time by Craig Gardner, who was childhood fan of Birmingham, was the deciding goal in the semi-final. Gardner had this to say about the goal,

“It’s unbelievable, you dream of these things. I was saying to my mates I wanted to get the winner to take us there and to do it was unbelievable.”

Now Gardner will want to lead Birmingham to their first trophy since 1963. His club will have a tough test in the final against Arsenal.

The transfer saga over striker Luis Suarez continues with Ajax giving Liverpool a final ultimatum. It looks like Ajax will be unwilling to give up their prolific scorer if Liverpool is unwilling to pay the big bucks for him. The club is setting this weekend as the deadline to buy the striker. FRI Jan. 21 (AM): On Qatar, Asian Cup, EPL, Friedel, MLS, and Paul

Qatar may be ready to consider a winter World Cup. Mohamed bin Hammam, a Qatari FIFA executive committee member, has claimed that he is “not opposed, but [he] is not proposing” moving from a summer tournament to a winter one.

Qatar will have plenty of time to mull the decision over, having just been eliminated in the Asian Cup quarterfinals by Japan 3-2 thanks to an 89th minute Masahiko Inoha goal. The remaining Asian Cup schedule at the bottom here.

Tottenham and West Ham are set to finalize their proposals for taking over the 2012 Olympic Stadium in London following the Summer Games. The proposals, however, have their detractors. David Bond takes a look at why the stadium will need a Premier League team following the Games to ensure its financial stability.

MON Jan. 11 (PM): Ballon D’Or, La Liga, MLS, and EPL

The ballots are in: Lionel Messi beat out his Barca teammates Iniesta and Xavi for the 2010 Ballon d’Or award. This is the second consecutive year that Messi has been bestowed with the honor, becoming the first repeat winner of the award since Ronaldinho’s recognition in 2004 and 2005.

After being sidelined for five months with a knee injury, Kaka is ready to get back on the pitch and stay with Real Madrid. In other words, “He will stay with Real,” according to manager Jose Mourinho.

WED Nov. 8 (AM): ON Champions League, Donovan, MLS, Serie A, and EPL

The wonderful and the whoops were both on display as four groups wrapped up their Champions League Group stages Tuesday.  Tottenham and Manchester United secured the top spots in Groups A and C, respectively, while Barcelona and a Jermaine Jones-less Schalke 04 join them atop their groups. The wins mean the English sides and Schalke will all avoid confrontations with Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid in the round of 16. Chelsea and Real Madrid have already secured first place prior to tonight’s match, while Bayern Munich and Shakhtar Donetsk will look to join them.  Complete standings here.

In one of tonight’s few matches with real meaning, Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger has stated that he will not instill fear in his team to coax a good performance from them.

If Landon Donovan does decide to return to Goodison Park, Everton’s current right-midfielder, Séamus Coleman, has admitted he would welcome the American star but is not ready to give up his place in the Toffee’s starting lineup.

THURS Dec.2 (PM): World Cup Bids, La Liga, Maradona, and MLS

If you are thinking about what could have been had FIFA favored our World Cup Bid, you’re not alone. Our friends across the pond in England must be frustrated over reports that the British media, especially the BBC, hurt England’s  chances.

Zinedine Zidane – not Qatar or Russia – may be the biggest winner thus far.

Although it’s no consolation, an island stadium sounds pretty cool.

MON Nov 29 (PM): La Liga, Beckham, US bid, EPL, and MLS

El Clásico was truly a classic match as Barcelona defeated rival Real Madrid 5-0 in front of over 98,000 fans at Camp Nou. The wining side saw two goals from David Villa, as well as scores courtesy of Xavi, Pedro, and Jeffrén Suárez.

New Everton rumors connected with the L.A. Galaxy, but this time for David Beckham.

The U.S. bid has received the go-ahead from Congress, monetary support from the MLS, and additional assistance from Morgan Freeman.
