Everyone can now Hear City, Balotelli Loud and Clear

Boring boring city was the cheer by opposing fans last season. Now, boring boring city is a sarcastic cheer that will be echoed by the sky blue half of Manchester City. This was not a win, but a statement by the noisy neighbors. And let’s stop calling City the noisy neighbors, because they are presently screaming into the ears of the Premier league telling everyone to get out of their way. After yesterday’s win, anyone questioning City needs to stop and think before they start talking.

First, let’s stop questioning Mancini’s tactics. There is a reason why Mancini won three straight titles while with Inter Milan. The Italian manager’s tactics have always been sound. If he takes off Johnson before the second half and replaces him with Gareth Barry he knows something we do not know. Look what happened yestarday, Mancini took off both his goal scorers and his squad went on to score three more goals. He also outcoached Sir Alex Ferguson, which not many managers can say. (more…)

Why Billionaire Owners are Good for Soccer

ANTHONY MANNINO- It is time for all of the hate against Manchester City and other clubs with pockets full of cash to stop. Sure, we can hate the ridiculous amount of money the owners pay for players, but it’s their cash so they can do what they want with it. These clubs are not destroying soccer, actually quit the contrary these billionaires are making their leagues better.

Yes, at times they may spend half a billion dollars on way too many strikers (Manchester City). But isn’t the English Preimer League going to be more exciting with City? If Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan did not own Manchester then Mario Balotelli’s antics would not be scrutinized by the British media, Sergio Aguero exquisite 30 minute debut would never have happened, and Manchester United would have won another damn title last year. WED. July 27 (PM): FIFA Rankings, Aguero, Pastore, and Serie A

The USMNT has fallen to 30th in the FIFA world rankings. It should not be surprising that the US fell a few places after losing to Mexico in the Gold Cup final. Spain is still number one and should be after winning the Euros and World Cup the past four years. Copa America champions Uruguay move up to fifth in the rankings.

All that is stoping Manchester City from signing Sergio Aguero is the club officially announcing the deal is done. The Argentinean striker is set to replace Carlos Tevez, who is unhappy playing in England. Aguero should be a good signing for Manchester City and adds depth to a team that will play in the Champions League.   (more…)

FRI. July 15 (PM): Jozy, McBean, Brent, Rules, and Man City

The transfer sage for Jozy Altidore is over after announcing on his twitter account that he will officially be a member of AZ Alkmaar. A very good news for Altidore and hopefully with hard work and a new club the goals will come. It was always likely that Altidore would leave Villarreal after he was unable to earn significant playing time with the club.

Norwich manager Paul Lambert is looking to sign defender Zak Whitbread to a long term deal. The American defender will play in the Premier League next year and has yet to receive a cap with the US Senior squad. He was called up for friendlies against Paraguay and Argentina back in March, but was unable to play because of an injury. (more…)

Coaching Conundrum

ANTHONY MANNINO-All Sports have come down to a win now mentality with clubs having a short-term memory. Owners and fans seem to easily forget the past or think of the future. Sadly, the majority of the blame falls on the coaches and it is the coach who loses his job if the team falls. I know it is the coach’s responsibility and it is his job to be in control of the entire team, but how quickly coaches are fired these days is ridiculous. It is part of the job description their team must perform week in and week out or they could lose their job. The problem now is these expectations are becoming borderline impossible at some clubs and owners are making rash decisions to fire a coach after one bad year. The quick fix is not always the best; implementing a new system and adding new players take time to gel. (more…)

TUES May 10 (PM): Man City, Palermo, Laurent Blanc and Omar Bravo

Palermo upset AC Milan 2-1 (and 4-3 on aggregate) to advance to the Italian Cup final. Palermo, who is chasing its first ever piece of silverware, will play either Roma or defending champs Inter Milan. (more…)

THURS March 31 (AM): Manchester United, Mario Balotelli and Juan Agudelo

The latest name in the running to replace Edwin van der Sar at Manchester United after his retirement this May is current Atletico Madrid keeper David de Gea. The Manchester-club has held talks over signing the 20-year-old Spaniard, according to his agent.

No, seriously, Mario Balotelli is happy at Manchester City. He’s just not thrilled about the £100k fine he’s reportedly being assessed for throwing darts at youth players.

A group of American investors are apparently making a bid to buy Roma by mid-April.

Check out the unlikely story of electrician-turned-Premier League player, Michael Richardson.

The love-fest continues for Juan Agudelo.
