FRI Dec. 31 (AM): On EPL, MLS, Transfers, and Managers

Precious few hours remain in 2010, which means the January transfer window will soon be upon us. While some moves have already been agreed to, plenty of hypotheticals still remain that could play a major part in how the European seasons finish. With that, here’s your Friday news.

Struggling to find the back of the net, Aston Villa may turn to an MLS Champion, who is currently on trial with the English side.

Frankie Hedjuk and the Los Angeles Galaxy have completed a one-year deal, adding the veteran defender to the title hopefuls.

TUES May 4 (PM) – Celtic Win, Hart to Arsenal, Ronaldo in Wax

Celtic defeated Rangers in a match that saw both starting goalkeepers suffer injuries and depart well before the final whistle. The victory in the Old Firm derby was meaningless to the losing side but greatly enhances Neil Lennon’s case to have the “caretaker” tag removed from his manager title. The former player won five SPL titles during his tenure patrolling the green and white’s midfield.

Maurice Edu played the entire match and nearly set up a goal for Rangers, which had already wrapped up the Scottish Premier League title. DaMarcus Beasley didn’t make the bench.

Aresenal Searches for a Goalie

Joe Hart’s a popular man these days. Reports out of England indicate that Arsene Wenger — undoubtedly tired of watching Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski foul things up in net – will bid for Manchester City’s 23-year-old backstop after spending a season. The Frenchman could have a difficult prying the young Englishman away from his current club, however, as City No. 1 Shay Given could miss up to five months with a dislocated shoulder. The Manchester side don’t need the money, so Wenger might be forced to look elsewhere.

Hart posted 12 clean sheets on loan to Birmingham City and could make England’s World Cup team. In other Three Lions news, 35-year-old Sol Campbell says he’s in the running for a spot on the final roster. Who has a better chance of making their county’s respective team: Campbell or Frankie Hedjuk?
