TUES March 29 (PM): Ghana ties England, the U.S. takes on Paraguay, Gareth Bale and Chad Ochocino

Asamoah Gyan leveled for Ghana in the 91st minute in their friendly against England at Wembley Stadium this afternoon. Andy Carroll struck first for the three lions, but Gyan equalized in the waning minutes of the match to give the African side a well-deserved draw.

In Euro 2012 play, the Netherlands bested Hungary 5-2, Spain downed Lithuania 3-1 and a surprising Israel squad defeated Georgia 1-0. Click here for a full list of scores.

The U.S. takes on Paraguay in a friendly tonight in Nashville and all eyes will be on youngster Juan Agudelo. Agudelo was the spark for the Americans on Friday night, poking in the tying goal against Argentina.

Following plenty of hype, David Beckham seemed fine in his first training session with Tottenham. How long he’ll be with the Hotspurs is in question, though, as there are ongoing negotiations with the Galaxy for a permanent deal.

If you are thinking about what could have been had FIFA favored our World Cup Bid, you’re not alone. Our friends across the pond in England must be frustrated over reports that the British media, especially the BBC, hurt England’s  chances.

Zinedine Zidane – not Qatar or Russia – may be the biggest winner thus far.

THURS Nov. 25 (PM): Rooney, England, EPL, Genoa, and Foreign Refs

Wayne Rooney opens up about his situation with Manchester United, particularly addressing the fans. “I feel like I have apologized to the fans, but everyone keeps saying that I haven’t and, if that is the case, then I apologize for my side of things,” Rooney said.

England is coming out with star-studded lineup, er, delegation for its 2018 World Cup bid.

WED Nov. 17 (AM): On Friendlies, USMNT, WC Bids, EPL, and Europe

A full serving of international friendlies is under way today, with the USMNT set to take on South Africa at 2:30 PM ET (ESPN2). Bob Bradley’s youthful and inexperienced side will have an opportunity to catch the coach’s eye as the 2014 cycle continues. Another look at one of those hopefuls, Mikkel Diskerud.

Must-watch matches today include:
Argentina v. Brazil (12:00 PM ET)
Netherlands v. Turkey (2:30 PM ET)
England v. France (3:00 PM ET)
Portugal v. Spain (4:00 PM ET)
Chile v. Uruguay (6:45 PM ET)

England has been given a boost in their bid to bring the World Cup back to soccer’s birthplace in 2018 after FIFA released a report detailing the risks associated with each bid. The US bid for 2022, however, has received a “medium risk” rating for its inability to secure government support. With the announcement less than a month away and Qatar receiving a “low risk” rating, the report is not extremely welcome news for those hoping the tournament returns to America. TUES Nov.16 (AM): International Play and the EPL

Twenty-six MLS players – nine of whom are Americans – have been called up to international duty in this week’s FIFA fixture date, though two will not report for their countries.

Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson and Kieran Gibbs will play for England in tomorrow’s friendly against France at Wembley, manager Fabio Capello confirmed today. You can give the call-ups flack for their inexperience, but do not question Henderson’s focus.

Chelsea captain John Terry fears that his nerve injury could keep him off the pitch for months.

MON Nov.15 (PM): International Play and Transfers

English manager Fabio Capello is mixing things up. Cardiff City goalkeeper forward Jay Bothroyd will be the first non-­goalkeeper from outside the Premier League to start for England this century against France tomorrow.

English goalkeeper David James still believes Capello is the right man for the job.

Capello is also pleased with David Beckham’s progress in the MLS. “You know the door is open for all the players,” Capello said. “He has said at this moment he is focused on the games he has to play for LA Galaxy.”

Mexico coach Jose Manuel de la Torre says he will skip the Copa America and send an assistant instead to handle El Tri in next year’s South American championship.

Barcelona have agreed to a deal to sign Holland midfielder Ibrahim Afellay from PSV Eindhoven in January.

THURS Oct.28 (PM): Zidane, Jones, Sneijder, FIFA, MLS, Shirts, and Reina


Zinedine Zidane is back – well, sort of. According to Real Madrid director general Jorge Valdano, Zidane will assist manager Jose Mourinho “not with the technical work but by collaborating in a way that his experience is available to the coach and the team.”

United States midfielder Jermaine Jones has injured ligaments in his right ankle, during Schalke 04′s German Cup victory of FSV Frankfurt on Tuesday.

Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder’s new contract will have him to stay with the club through 2015.  The 2-year extension ends speculation around the Dutchman, who was reportedly courted by Manchester United.

England withdrew its complaint to FIFA after Russia apologized for comments made regarding London’s high crime rate and youth drinking problem.
