I think it would be smart for US Soccer to see if it can work with the NCAA to change some of the rules to better develop players--a less cluttered schedule, more practice time, international rules for the clock and substitutions...

I also think it would help development if players were more concentrated, like their American peers in other sports. The Union recently signed a homegrown player from Colgate. Now, the kid only stayed a year so it's not as if his development was permanently scarred or something overblown like that, but wouldn't he have been better off if he went to a power school?

Yes, it's funny how we expect players to start young and forsake college. Then if a player has a short career or ends up making the MLS minimum, they have to work that much harder when their playing days are over. If the teenagers who go pro can get finish high school/obtain their GED while playing professionally, then certainly they could get a college degree as well. It would be wonderful if MLS sides could partner with universities, particularly universities that offer distance learning/online courses. With the amount of travel involved in MLS play, taking classes on site would be difficult.

One of the problems with NC$$ soccer is the limits on practice time. It makes it harder to get better with the limits that are imposed. And don't get me started on the substitution rules in college soccer.

What surprises me is that there hasn't been a club team in the US that has teamed up with a local university to give the option of both playing pro soccer and getting an education. That could be an advanced academy option where a player doesn't have to choose between college and pro soccer. Given that the US pro soccer calendar is primarily through the college summer break, there wouldn't be huge conflicts.

High school and college soccer were fun and challenging. However, particularly in high school, my development as a player was extremely hindered by playing multiple games per week and attending two practices a day on non-game days. It was extremely hard on the body and confusing having different sets of coaches preach totally different ideas. I'd rather have our future pro and USMNT players learning and developing in the right atmosphere and the right coaching.

I never thought I'd see Chivas USA in the top 10 list this year in MLS. What a job Fraser has done so far with the club.

Sign a new contract at Fulham, with a 1-yr loan to Arsenal so Dempsey gets Champions League Play. He can cement his legend-status at Fulham, and play CL that way.

I like this idea. We have to keep all important matches out of California. The gold cup final vs. Mexico was pathetic that was no home field that was more of an away game. California is no place for the U.S soccer team. We should play all world cup qualifiers and concacaf gold cup matches at Quest field where there are no latinos and great fans. Then all friendlies can be spread out across the U.S so everyone can see a game. As far as time zones all games should be played East coast 7pm which is a 4pm dusk start in Seattle which is perfect.

The most embarrasing result ever that I've experienced as a US Fan. It was not a one game fluke (Athens Olympics Qual in Guadalajara) or the thrashing we got last year in the GC final (against a better opponent). This was just utter debacle. and dissapointing. The others have hurt but I've found some solace. I'm not even mad or sad like other losses but just laugh because it was a very bad process with a an inexperienced coach, horrible planning and bad crop and generation of players.
