Dynamo Kiev in Stealth Shea Bid?

A source with knowledge of the dealings told 10Kit Thursday that FC Dallas winger Brek Shea is in the sites of Ukrainian outfit Dynamo Kiev.

The perennial Champions League also-rans are supposedly prepared to pay $10 million for the Hoops star, but Shea’s camp isn’t convinced by the idea of going to Eastern Europe, and seems to think they can negotiate a better deal elsewhere, the source said.

A $10 million fee would match the most paid for an MLS player, dished out when Villarreal purchased Jozy Altidore from NY Red Bull.

The source said the bid was made earlier this week, and is still on the table, but since things have gone quiet as Shea’s camp explores other options.

Shea is returning to Dallas today after featuring for an unconvincing 90 minutes in the Americans’ 1-0 win in Panama Wednesday.

When contacted for comment on the report, FCD President Doug Quinn poured cold water on the rumor, saying no formal offer for Brek Shea has been made and Dallas is not interesting in receiving an offer.

As Greg Seltzer normally does, he set the record straight for all of us. Still, these kinds of stealth bids will likely be rolling in for Shea in the weeks and months to come until he is finally sold.
